Budos Band
One of Daptone Records’ earliest projects, the Budos Band formed out of a New York jam session put together by local heroes Antibalas, coalescing into an instrumental psychedelic soul band that channels Afro-funk through ’70s rock and late-’60s R&B. The Staten Island born-and-bred band’s latest LP is 2020’s Long in the Tooth. Brazilian guitarist Rogê moves between bossa nova, samba, and reggae with ease, and draws inspiration from the African jongo, samba, afoxé and maculelê. An enthusiastic collaborator, his latest is a 2020 album with Seu Jorge; his NA VEIA project with Arlindo Cruz earned them a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Samba Album. The show is hosted by Tom Ferrie, from the Staten Island streaming community radio station Maker Park Radio.
Charlie Parker Festival: Jazzmeia Horn, Calvin Booker
A Grammy-nominated American jazz singer in the vein of Betty Carter and Sarah Vaughan, Jazzmeia Horn is one of the boldest voices in modern jazz. Her new album Dear Love is her third, but her first with Her Noble Force, a 15-piece ensemble that expands her sound and offers new challenges for her daring arrangements. She’s joined by Calvin Booker, a multi-disciplinary dancer and DJ born and raised in Brownsville, Brooklyn. An original member of the Broadway production of FELA!, he brings his unique style of tap-dancing to the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival for the first time.
Kenny Barron, Bill Charlap & Aaron Diehl
NEA Jazz Master Kenny Barron is the premier pianist in jazz today, revered for the lyricism and elegance of his artistry. Grammy Award winner Bill Charlap is hailed for his “deep sense of swing” and “unflagging melodic invention … or re-invention” (Downbeat). Cole Porter Fellowship winner Aaron Diehl is one of his generation’s most acclaimed pianists, noted for his nuanced artistry, intellect and fluency across a wide spectrum of jazz. Three stellar soloists, two pianos on our stage, a jazz piano summit.

Cory Henry
Simply put, Brooklyn-born singer, composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist and all-around keyboard master Cory Henry is the future of music. A GRAMMY winner with his old band Snarky Puppy, he’s since made a name for himself as a solo artist and producer earning four GRAMMY nominations including Kanye West (Donda), Erik Bellinger (New Light) and his own self-produced album (Something to Say). Henry has also gone on to lay his vocals, instrumentals and production skills to recent releases from global superstars Rosalía, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Imagine Dragons and more. With a DJ set from Soho Radio’s Rustam Ospanoff, spanning the deepest soul sounds from around the world.
