The inaugural NoMad Jazz Festival runs August 9-10 in Madison Square Park in Manhattan.
The festival, presented by The NoMad Alliance in partnership with The Jazz Gallery, Flatiron NoMad Partnership, and Madison Square Park Conservancy.
features headliners like Lizz Wright, Ravi Coltrane, the Roy Hargrove Big Band and many more.
WBGO's Doug Doyle spoke with Lizz Wright who has made Madison Square Park a stop on her worldwide tour of her latest album Shadow.
"I'm really honored. I'm delighted to be here for the inaugural NoMad Jazz Festival. New York is such a beautiful and inspiring city. I always secretly say I'm still a New Yorker inside, way down in the core, so it's always a bit of coming home for me. Those were formidable years and keep friendships I'll have forever. To be in Madison Square Park is pretty exciting."

Wright says her current tour has been wonderful as well.
"I'm thankful for how this record (Shadow) has opened up some more doors to theaters and hearts in the Americana and Folk crowd. I'm really happy that they hear themselves in this too. I'm always glad when I came sing songs that bring people together."
