At a streamed pre-telecast ceremony held Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024 at the Crypto.com Center (formerly the Staples Center) in Los Angeles, winners of Grammy Awards in various jazz categories were announced. Among the awardees were Samara Joy, Billy Childs, Nicole Zuraitis, säje (featuring Jacob Collier), Laufey, Miguel Zenon and The Count Basie Orchestra. Meshell Ndegeocello’s album The Omnichord Real Book won in a new category of Best Alternative Jazz Album. Terence Blanchard’s opera Champion won for Best Opera Recording. Patti Austin, who was nominated for her album Ella 2 with Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band, served as a presenter. In addition, an ensemble featuring Bob James, Robert Glasper, Terrace Martin, Adam Blackstone and Harvey Mason, Sr. performed towards the end of the pre-telecast ceremony.
