Witnessing Kenny Barron, Ron Carter, and Jeff "Tain" Watts launch one of The Jazz Gallery's 30th-anniversary celebrations is still vibrating throughout my entire being! To have experienced both sets on the opening night was a true privilege and an honor. Two NEA Jazz Masters and a master drummer, each a past recipient of The Jazz Gallery’s annual Honors awards, reminded everyone why they are so revered. Their performance of standards wasn't just a nostalgic exercise; it was a dynamic, present-day dialogue between three masters.

Barron's sublime piano, Carter's grounding bass, and Tain's explosive drums combined to create something truly extraordinary. The Jazz Gallery's motto, "Where the future is present," resonated deeply – these legends, while firmly rooted in jazz history, continue to redefine its boundaries, demonstrating the music's enduring power and limitless possibilities.

For 30 years, The Jazz Gallery, a not-for-profit institution that I co-founded, has been a vital force in the jazz world, nurturing emerging talent and showcasing established masters. Its intimate setting has provided a platform for countless innovative performances, fostering a community of musicians and fans. The Jazz Gallery's commitment to supporting the evolution of jazz makes it a crucial hub for the art form's present and future.
