April is Jazz Appreciation Month, and WBGO is celebrating by showcasing some of the talent from local programs.
Here we spend some time with the William Paterson Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of pianist Bill Charlap. Opening with the Wes Montgomery tune "Full House," the band then lunged into "Combustion," an original by the group's guitarist, Wes Whitelock.
"Their talent is really about as good as it gets," Charlap enthused during the group's visit to Afternoon Jazz. "And you know, this music attracts some of the best musicians. I think the future is assured, and in very good hands with these gentlemen."
