Guitarist Stefan Grossman carries on the fingerpicking-style legacy of his teacher Reverend Gary Davis

Reverend Gary Davis was an African-American blues and gospel singer who taught many guitarists the fingerpicking style of playing. Some of his students went on to major careers in American roots music.

WBGO's Jon Kalish reports Stefan Grossman, one of those guitar students who is now based in Sparta, New Jersey, has made it his life’s work to pass on Reverend Davis' teachings .

Doug Doyle has been News Director at WBGO since 1998 and has taken his department to new heights in coverage and recognition. Doug and his staff have received more than 250 awards from organizations like PRNDI (now PMJA), AP, New York Association of Black Journalists, Garden State Association of Black Journalists and the New Jersey Society of Professional Journalists.
