Baryshnikov Arts Center Presents Boris Berman
Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) presents a one-night-only recital by pianist Boris Berman on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at 7:30pm at BAC’s Howard Gilman Performance Space. The program features works by Ukrainian composer Valentin Silvestrov, whose music Berman has championed since the 1960s.
Including two US premieres, the program for solo piano showcases the evolution of Silvestrov's musical style, from the underground Soviet modernism of the post-Stalin USSR to his later works characterized by quiet and intense simplicity. Grammy Award-nominated pianist Berman, who has been praised by The New York Times for his “poetical refinement and intense musicality,” displays the technique and prowess that has gained him international stature as a performer and master teacher.

Dark Days: Karl Larson Plays Scott Wollschleger
Pianist Karl Larson makes his solo debut at Brooklyn’s Roulette in a free, live streamed concert celebrating the release of Dark Days, a new album of solo piano music by composer Scott Wollschleger out April 23 on New Focus Recordings. The program will echo the album’s experiential journey, a compilation of 10 of Wollschleger’s deeply personal works composed between 2007-2020, tracing the evolution of Wollschleger’s synesthetic compositional style. Larson, Wollschleger’s close friend and frequent collaborator, will give listeners a glimpse into the intimate depths of the composer’s working process and the utilization of his rare synesthesia through the tactile use of the piano. Described by Pitchfork as “marvelous” and “powerful,” Karl Larson is a specialist in the music of our time and is uniquely suited to perform these works thanks to a deep understanding of Wollschleger’s musical language.
Evil Dead II with Bruce Campbell (virtual)
Join us for a nationwide virtual viewing of THE EVIL DEAD II with live commentary throughout by Bruce Campbell himself. Watch the sequel to Evil Dead with Campbell as he shares memories, stories, and anecdotes from the film, and for a few lucky viewers, Bruce will even answer questions from the chat. Ash, the sole survivor of THE EVIL DEAD, returns to the same cabin in the woods and again unleashes the forces of the dead in THE EVIL DEAD II. With his girlfriend possessed by the demons and his body parts running amok, Ash is forced to single-handedly battle the legions of the damned as the most lethal and groovy hero in horror movie history.
Snug Harbor Jazz Revival Livestream Series
For over 30 years, Snug Harbor has provided the best in live jazz to Frenchmen Street. However, like many others, this institution has been closed for the last eleven months due to the covid-19 crisis. In an effort to bring the music back, Snug Harbor and the New Orleans Jazz Celebration (NOJC) will be producing a live streaming series from the Snug Harbor stage to benefit the club and New Orleans’ local artists. Each Sunday at 7:00pm CST a different all-star band will be presented for hour-long performances livestreamed around the world at Stage It.com for all to see. From a mosaic of modern jazz, blues & gospel tied together to Afro-Cuban funk, this series will be bringing you some of New Orleans' best performers. You won't want to miss it!
Mike Marino
New Jersey’s Bad Boy is back! Jersey City native Mike Marino returns to NJPAC with a more hysterical stand-up about the Italian-American experience. Inspired by his family’s heritage and the absurdities of modern life, Mike’s riotous comedy has taken him from The Tonight Show to sitcoms to major comedy clubs, theaters, and casinos from New York to Los Angeles, and around the world. Mike’s video “If the President Were Italian” hit 12 million+ views on YouTube. He’s also been a highlight of Montreal’s famed Just for Laughs Comedy Festival for seven years in a row. In 2008, Marino was inducted into the New Jersey Comedy Hall of Fame, and in 2015 he was awarded the USO Bob Hope Comedy Award for his regular performances for the U.S. military.
An Evening with Chris Botti
Since the release of his 2004 critically acclaimed CD When I Fall In Love, Chris Botti has become the largest-selling American instrumental artist. His success has crossed over to audiences usually reserved for pop muisc and his ongoing association with PBS has led to four #1 jazz albums, as well as multiple Gold, Platinum and Grammy Awards. Most recently, his latest album Impressions won the Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental. Performing worldwide and selling more than four million albums, he has found a form of creative expression that begins in jazz and expands beyond the limits of any single genre.
