On Friday, March 1, Villa Albertine and Centre Pompidou will launch the Jersey City edition of the free philosophy marathon Night of Ideas 2024 at Hudson County Community College. The popular event, attended by thousands in its previous iteration in Brooklyn across the Hudson, will draw culture lovers from the five boroughs to Jersey City.
Night of Ideas will serve as an entrée to the increasing influence of French culture in United States’ most diverse community and New Jersey’s second most populous city.

Mohamed Bouabdallah, Cultural Counselor of France in the United States and the new Director of Villa Albertine, spoke with WBGO's Doug Doyle about the event. The program asks: how do we build and how do we live in cities today? Taking inspiration from Jersey City, the event will address urban growth and the future of cities with debates, installations, multimedia pop-ups, and workshops, prompting attendees to consider the impact of urban growth through lenses of inclusivity, sustainability, arts and culture, education, and food.
