Mayor Mamdani has chosen New York City’s small business chief. It's Kenny Minaya, a housing lawyer and longtime city official, as commissioner of the Department of Small Business Services. The department gives out grants and helps small businesses get through bureaucracy. It also oversees the city’s business improvement districts. The agency will be a critical factor in Mamdani’s plan to cut fines and fees on small businesses in half.
