Saxophonist Dave McMurray's musical life is full of richness, from playing with blues aster Albert King, recording on hundreds of records, with Bob James, Geri Allen, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, and countless others, along with his own recordings, including two reimaginations of Grateful Dead tunes.
But his heart and soul are steeped in his hometown of Detroit. I LOVE LIFE even when I'm hurting is a celebration of his hometown, the people there , many who join Dave on his new release. Dave is an integral part of Don Was and the Pan-Detroit Ensemble, and Was, keyboardist Luis Resto, guitarist Wayne Gerard, drummer Jeff Canady and percussionist Mahindi Masai, join other Motor City friends to create a program of originals, some Yusef Lateef, another nod to Jerry Garcia, plus a rendition of Al Jarreau's We Got By, featuring vocalist KEM.
