SFJAZZ Collective

Founded in 2004, the SFJAZZ Collective has paid tribute to John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Ornette Coleman and Stevie Wonder, among other notables. They are also steeped in self-expression, with each tribute merging with originals from the band members. Saxophonists Chris Potter and David Sanchez, Mike Rodriguez on trumpet & flugelhorn, vibraphonist & vocalist Warren Wolf, pianist Edward Simon, bassist Matt Brewer and drummer Kendrick Scott comprise the Collective's current lineup, covering originals and merging the worlds of Billie Holiday and Earth, Wind & Fire, alongside a Donny Hathaway nugget on New Works & Classics Reimagined.

From Monday, May 8 through Friday, May 12, one cut from the New Works & Classics Reimagined album will be featured each morning on the New Day, New Play spotlight on my Daybreak show.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning. This winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year award has hosted the morning show each weekday from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
