WBGO to Partner on NJ Gubernatorial Debate

On Tuesday, Oct. 10, 7:00-8:00 p.m., WBGO will co-host and broadcast one of just two public debates between the Republican and Democratic candidates competing to be the state’s next governor, former U.S. Ambassador to Germany Phil Murphy (D) and New Jersey Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno (R). Seated on the panel of journalists asking questions of the candidates will be WBGO News Director Doug Doyle, as well as 2017 WBGO Media Fellow and current Rutgers University–Newark (RU-N) journalism and media studies major, Chinedu Onyemaobi.

Doyle’s team has accumulated many accolades, most recently at PRNDI winning four first place and three additional place awards as well as winning awards in four categories from the New Jersey Society of Professional Journalists. Doyle also is a major force in guiding WBGO’s Media Fellows, a program which was developed to ensure that opportunities exist to nurture and train the next generation of local leaders in broadcasting.

Onyemaobi spent summer 2017 as a WBGO Media Fellow, where he honed his journalism and on-air skills. "I'm very excited that Chinedu has been selected by Rutgers University to participate in the televised New Jersey gubernatorial debate. From learning how to conduct strong insightful interviews to writing and producing in-depth, sound-rich news features, Chinedu can now use those skills he's learned as WBGO Media Fellow to pursue a career in broadcasting and digital journalism," said Doyle.
