The trailblazing artist been a global success for more than 50 years. She now has a new book which shares her strategies for longevity.
Co-authored by Kevin E. Taylor, "This Is It – Marvelous and Getting Better" takes the reader on the highs and lows of Melba’s career.
WBGO's Doug Doyle spoke with Melba Moore about the new memoir, and her amazing career that had its share of highs and lows.
Winning the Tony Award in 1970 for her portrayal of Lutiebelle in Purlie
was a huge moment for her. After receiving that prestigious award for "Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical", Melba appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show.
From Harlem to the Hollywood Walk of Fame (2023), Melba's resilience has kept her going. She loved her days at Newark Arts High School.
Melba Moore continues to perform. Her next show is at the South Orange Performing Arts Center with fellow R & B star Jeff Redd on February 1. Moore will be singing a range of classics, from her years on Broadway in Hair and Purlie to the R&B/Pop hits of the 70’s and 80’s such as “You Stepped Into My Life” and “Love’s Comin’ At Cha.”
