In the summer of 2023, Greenville, Mississippi-based blues pianist and singer Eden Brent traveled with her husband/bass player/producer Bob Dowell to his hometown, London. What transpired was a surprise two-day recording session with ace guitarist Rob Updegraff and drummer Pat Levett, Dowell’s old bandmates from The Coalminers. Sometimes spontaneous is good. Recorded live in Fish Factory Studio, the result is Brent’s bluesiest and most mature album to date.

There’s a definite New Orleans feel to Brent’s music, which gives it a fun, nostalgic, timeless quality. Getaway Blues, which will be released on June 21, features Brent’s signature boogie-woogie piano playing, soulful singing, a tasty band, and bittersweet blues ballads. A few highlights are the already-released title track single, the lazy, sultry delta blues tune “Watch the World Go By”, and the Dr. John-feeling “What You Want.” The record should receive acclaim from the blues community that has already feted Brent with three Blues Music Awards in her career.
