A New Jersey man who was convicted of murder when he was 19 was released from prison in late December after serving for more than 30 years.  A state court ruling freed Ra'Zulu Ukawabutu because when he was sentenced, the fact that he was under the age of 26 when he committed the crime was taken into consideration.

As he explained to WBGO’s Jon Kalish, that is now a mitigating factory in prison sentences.
