Scandinavia has a long tradition of folk arts such as weaving, basket-making, boat building and woodworking being taught in special schools to perpetuate the crafts. There are now more than 60 folk arts schools in North America. The mid-west, particularly Minnesota, is a hotbed for these schools.

WBGO’s Jon Kalish visited the North House Folk School in Minnesota.

Next week Jon takes us to a week-long kids blacksmithing summer camp where the kids work on red-hot steel.
