Westchester has been home to one of the richest musical legacies in America, as generations of composers found inspiration and solace here. As Aaron Copland said, ”I moved to this county to avoid the interruptions of the city; the woods, the quiet and the privacy, were essential for my creative work.” Music from Copland House’s eclectic, entertaining program journeys across 100 years of music by Westchester natives or transplants, ranging widely from Gilded Age Romanticism to mid-century Modernist and neo-Stravinskian romps, and embracing the sounds of vibrant folk songs, British fifes, and languid ballads. The concert features a trio of Pulitzer Prize winners (Aaron Copland, Joan Tower, and Samuel Barber), Old and New World masters (Charles Tomlinson Griffes and Pierre Jalbert) and one genuine, undefinable maverick (Percy Grainger). You won’t “hear” Westchester again in quite the same way again!

Acclaimed Tenor Saxophonist George Garzone brings his formidable quartet to the Zinc on Saturday, September 24. He's supported by guitarist Peter Bernstein, bassist Peter Slavov, and drummer Ari Hoenig.

Saxophonist George Garzone is a member of The Fringe, a jazz trio founded in 1972 that includes bassist John Lockwood and drummer Bob Gullotti, that performs regularly in the Boston area and has toured Portugal. The group has released three albums. A veteran jazzman, Garzone has appeared on over 20 recordings. He began on the tenor when he was six, played in a family band, and attended music school in Boston. In addition, Garzone has guested in many situations, touring Europe with Jamaaladeen Tacuma and performing with Danilo Perez, Joe Lovano, Jack DeJohnette, Rachel Z, and John Patitucci, among others.

Garzone is well-known as a sought-after jazz educator, teaching at the Berklee College of Music, New England Conservatory, Longy School of Music, New York University and the New School University Jazz and Contemporary Program. He has pioneered the triadic chromatic approach and students of his have included Joshua Redman, Branford Marsalis, Teodross Avery, Luciana Souza, Mark Turner, Donny McCaslin, Doug Yates, and Danilo Pérez, to name a few.

Acclaimed Venezuelan jazz pianist Luis Perdomo brings his trio to Zinc on Tuesday, August 2 for a splendid evening of jazz piano. He's supported by Ugonna Okegwo on bass and Adam Cruz on drums.

Ever since he came to New York in 1993 from Venezuela, Perdomo has emerged as one of the most in-demand sidemen—as evidenced by his celebrated work with a wide array of jazz and Latin stars—from Ravi Coltrane to Ray Barretto, and by his six critically acclaimed recordings as a leader. The release of his magnificent new, Hot Tone label debut CD, 22, features bassist Mimi Jones’ supple, deep bass lines and drummer Rudy Royston’s quicksilver rhythms, in a trio he christened The Controlling Ear Unit. “I wanted to create an environment where a sensitive player could make his own musical choices, without fear of the consequences,” Perdomo says. “The word ‘unit’ is appropriate because although the current group is a trio, it doesn’t really have to be restrained to that. It could have a different format, depending on what the music calls for.”

Acclaimed pianist Uri Caine brings his formidable trio to Zinc for a splendid evening of jazz piano on Tuesday, August 16. He’s supported by bassist Mark Helias and drummer Ben Perowsky.

Jazz pianist/composer Uri Caine brings an eclectic array of disciplines and influences to his music. His own Jewish heritage, his classical and jazz training, and his interest in electronics combine in ambitious hybrids that are often challenging but always inventive.

Caine has received commissions to compose music for the American Composers Orchestra, The Arditti Quartet, The Vienna Volksoper, Concerto Koln, The Basel Chamber Orchestra, and The Beaux Arts Trio among others. His most recent orchestral composition “Sunburst” was performed in June 2016 at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Sicily. He also served as the Director of The Venice Biennale in 2003. Caine has received grants from The National Endowment for the Arts, The Pew Foundation, and The USA Artist Fellowships and has performed at numerous festivals including the North Sea, Monterey, Montreal, and Newport Jazz Festival as well as classical festivals like the Salzburg Festival, the Munich Opera, Holland Festival, IRCAM and Great Performers at Lincoln Center. He has recorded over 30 albums as a leader and was nominated for a Grammy® Award for The Othello Syndrome (Winter and Winter) in 2009.

Acclaimed jazz guitarist Ron Jackson brings his formidable trio to Zinc on Monday, August 22. He’s supported by bassist Essiet Essiet and drummer Sylvia Cuenca.

New York jazz 6 and 7 string master guitarist Ron Jackson is a composer, arranger, producer, recording artist, instructor, and writer. Ron is currently a Contributor/Writer for Acoustic Guitar Magazine. Ron has performed and recorded in over 30 countries as a bandleader and ensemble performer, and is well established on the international jazz scene.

Ron’s style of guitar playing and composing is a blend of jazz and other American styles such as soul, rhythm and blues, pop, as well as Caribbean and Latin, having been influenced by his Philippine roots. He brings it all together in his unique approach to playing jazz guitar. Considered one of the most versatile guitarists in the world, he is adept in styles such as African, Rock, R+B, Brazilian, Pop, Country, Calypso, Reggae, Soul, Funk, and Classical, but his greatest passion has always been jazz. Ron has 8 jazz guitar albums to his credit as a leader.

Acclaimed jazz guitarist Ben Monder brings his trio to perform at Zinc on Friday, September 9. He’s supported by Chris Lightcap on bass and Anthony Pinciotti on drums.

A musician in the New York City area for over 30 years, Ben Monder has performed with a wide variety of artists, including Jack McDuff, Marc Johnson, Lee Konitz, Billy Childs, Andrew Cyrille, George Garzone, Paul Motian, Maria Schneider, and Marshall Crenshaw. He also contributed guitar parts to the last David Bowie album, “Blackstar”. Ben conducts clinics and workshops around the world and has served on the faculties of the New England Conservatory, NYU, and the New School. He was the recipient of a Doris Duke Impact Award in 2014, and a Shifting Foundation grant in 2013. Ben continues to perform original music internationally in solo and trio settings, and in a long-standing duo project with vocalist Theo Bleckmann. He has appeared on over 200 CDs as a sideman and has released 6 as a leader: Amorphae (ECM, 2015), Hydra (Sunnyside, 2013), Oceana (Sunnyside, 2005), Excavation (Arabesque, 2000), Dust (Arabesque, 1997), and Flux (Songlines,1995).

Acclaimed jazz guitarist Yotam Silberstein brings his Brazilian group to Zinc on Tuesday, January 17, for a special tribute to legendary Brazilian composer and musician, Jacob do Bandolím. He’s supported by accordionist Vítor Gonçalves, bassist Eduardo Belo, and drummer Dennis Bulhoes.

In only six years since landing in New York, internationally acclaimed guitarist Yotam has earned a well-deserved spot among the Jazz elite by collaborating with legendary musicians such as James Moody, The Heath Brothers, Paquito D'Rivera, Monty Alexander, Roy Hargrove, and the Dizzy Gillespie Alumni All-Stars.

Yotam's mastery of the guitar is featured on an array of hit albums, ranging from his recent releases, "Resonance" and "Brasil" on the Jazz Legacy Productions label, to Monty Alexander's Grammy-nominated "Harlem-Kingston Express Live!"
