Guitar Masters Series: Rale Micic & Steve Cardenas
“Micic is bringing an intriguing new perspective to the jazz guitar.”—The New York Times
“Steve Cardenas is an earthbound jazz guitarist, more at home with the stir of a rhythm section than the whoosh of solo heroics. This makes him a pervasive but subtle presence on the scene.”
—The New York Times
Acclaimed jazz guitarists Rale Micic and Steve Cardenas bring their formidable quartet to Zinc on Monday, December 12 to celebrate the music of John Abercrombie. They’re supported by Jared Gold on organ and Adam Nussbaum on drums.
Rale Micic is one of the most successful and critically acclaimed jazz musicians to emerge from Serbia. Audiences throughout the world have been captivated by Micic’s mesmerizing music, exploring the interaction between his Serbian musical roots and his extensive knowledge of jazz. Micic has worked with jazz artists such as Tom Harrell, Don Friedman, Eric Alexander, Jason, Delfeayo Marsalis, etc. He is a member of the Tom Harrell Chamber Ensemble and is featured on the critically acclaimed release First Impression (2015 High Note). Rale Micic plays Sadowsky Guitars and D’Addario strings.
Steve Cardenas has many diverse credits as a performer and recording artist. Beginning his musical career in his hometown of Kansas City, he has been an integral part of the New York City jazz community since 1995. Steve has performed with many well-known and highly esteemed musicians. Notably, he was a longstanding member of the Paul Motian Electric Bebop Band (which later became the Paul Motian Octet) as well as Joey Baron’s band, Killer Joey. Steve is currently a member of the Charlie Haden Liberation Music Orchestra, Steve Swallow Quintet, and the Ben Allison Band. He has toured the U.S., Canada, Europe, and South America extensively, performing at numerous jazz festivals, including the North Sea Jazz Festival and Montreux Jazz Festival. In addition, Steve leads his own trio, performing at various venues around New York City.
Showtimes are at 7:00 pm & 8:30 pm. Tickets: $25 in advance / $30 day of show. For more info, visit https://www.zincjazz.com.
Valentine's Day at The Django: Tony Glausi and Mar Vilaseca Present "Songs About Love"
Personnel: Tony Glausi - Trumpet and Vocals Mar Vilaseca - Vocals Mike King - Piano Tyrone Allen - Bass Trumpet sensation Tony Glausi features rising-star vocalist Mar Vilaseca for a special Valentine's Day performance, featuring "Songs About Love". Tony Glausi is widely celebrated as one of the most accomplished trumpet players on the planet, with more awards and accolades than we have time to get into here. For years now, Glausi has been hailed as such while being overlooked for his prowess as a composer and producer. With EVERYTHING AT ONCE, his new album out September 3rd, Tony heads for straight-to-the-gut pop jams and R&B-influenced tunes that take inspiration from a bevy of sources while still remaining uniquely true to Glausi’s vision as an artist. Born in Barcelona in 1998, vocalist, pianist and composer Mar Vilaseca is currently a Jazz Performance student at The Juilliard School. She has developed her music career very quickly due to the support of her father who is also a jazz musician. Mar has performed at various international music festivals including Guangzhou Jazz Festival (China), Festival de Jazz de Barcelona (Spain), and Festival de Jazz de Bogotá (Colombia). She has collaborated with numerous artists in the jazz scene of New York, including Jonathan Barber, Taber Gable, Julius Rodriguez, Benny Benack, and The Steven Feifke Big Band among others. In 2020 she released her first album entitled ‘Find The Way’, which presents all original compositions influenced by jazz, gospel, and soul music.
