  • This summer, International Contemporary Ensemble, in partnership with The New School’s College of Performing Arts, presents Ensemble Evolution—a summer intensive designed to foster a holistic understanding of the artist as a global citizen—fully in-person for the first time from Monday, June 26 - Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Arnhold Hall.

    There will also be a Closing Night concert on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at Ernst C. Stiefel Hall featuring a program of works led and curated in collaboration with faculty, participants, and Ensemble Evolution Directors Fay Victor and Rebekah Heller, including works by George Lewis, Nicole Mitchell, Brittany J. Green, alongside three pieces by participant composers. In alignment with the ethos of Ensemble Evolution—which allows participants to take the lead in programming and producing—the concert program will be announced the morning of the show. Both programs are free and open to the public.
  • A concert featuring the mastery of seven-time Grammy-nominated Latin Jazz star Bobby Sanabria & Multiverse Big Band present their new work: Vox Humana. Typically focused on musical styles of Latin Jazz, spanning traditional afro-Latin rhythms (son, clave, bomba y plena) to updated versions of Nuyorican Salsa, Sanabria’s ensemble uses Vox Humana to present collaborations with three female vocalists: multi-Grammy award winner Janis Siegel (Manhattan Transfer), blues and jazz Queen Antoinette Montague, and the multi-lingual powerhouse, Jennifer Jade Ledesna.

  • The Englewood Public Library is pleased to present The Corina Bartra Sextet in an evening of Afro-Peruvian jazz. The concert will take place at the Englewood Public Library at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 8 on the library's front plaza. Attendees should bring a chair and/or blanket if they so desire. In case of rain, the concert will be held indoors on the library's main level. The program is free to the public, but registration is encouraged at bccls.libcal.com/event/10166512
    Bartra was the first vocalist & percussionist to blend Afro Peruvian and Criolla music (mixing Peruvian, European, and African instruments and tunes) & Jazz. She also pioneered subtle and exciting instrumental textures in her compositions and her arrangements. She writes extensive intros, interludes, and solos filled with inventive rhythms and beautiful harmonies. She adds an instrumental section to her unique & historic projects.
    Corina Bartra has degrees in jazz percussion from (name schools) and a Master in vocal performance from Queens College in New York City. Corina was the recipient of the prestigious Queens Council on the Arts award in 2008, and has performed at venues such as the Capitol Jazz festival, the United Nations, and Acoustic Grammy in New York,
    Appearing with Bartra will be pianist & composer Steve Sandberg, leader of the
    Steve Sandberg Quartet; Saxophonist Dave Morgan; Bassist Sebastián de Urquiza; Drummer Fabio Rojas; Guitarist Tony Romano; and Cajon player Perico Diaz.

    Sālongo is a seven-piece Afro-Cuban/Brazilian group that combines Mongo Santamaria's rhythmic lattice work, with Brazilian beats, the harmonic concepts of contemporary jazz, and the commercial veneer of Santana.

    We’ll be performing selections from our debut self-titled CD, as well as a few new selections.

    For the past 26 years, this program has lifted the confidence, oratory skills and passion of Essex County young men in 7th and 8th grade. The participants give a speech on Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "Perspectives on the World Today".



    All participants are given an allotted amount of time to present their speech at a preliminary contest. The top seven (7) participants participate in a luncheon during MLK weekend where they present their speeches before an audience and judges. The participants are judged on 10 criteria, including oratorical skills, content, time management, presentation, along with other criteria.



    Through community contributions, ticket sales and sponsorships, the Foundation provides monetary awards to the winners.

  • The Roosevelt Library will present a Women's History Month screening of Jean Stapleton's Emmy and Golden Globe award nominated performance in ELEANOR, FIRST LADY OF THE WORLD (1982) at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 18, 2024. The event will be held in the Henry A. Wallace Center. This is a free public event, but registration is required.
