  • Saxophonist Mark Gross will be in concert at the Englewood Public Library on Thursday, August 11, at 7:30 p.m. on the library’s front plaza. This will be the 8th installment in the library’s 10th annual jazz concert series “Jazz Under the Stars.” The concert series is free and open to the public. No registration is needed, but library parking is very limited. In case of inclement weather, the concerts will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church one block north at 113 Engle St.
    Mark credits his prolific sound to the rich appreciation for Gospel music he gew up with in Baltimore. After developing his interests in classical music at the Baltimore School for the Arts, Mark studied four years at Berklee College of Music and got his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Performance.
    Mark has performed on Broadway as well as in movies and TV. Among Mark's credits include "Five Guys Named Moe", "Malcolm X", "Boardwalk Empire" and "Annie."
    Among those Mark has toured with include Nat Adderley, Dave Holland, Mulgrew Miller, Dizzy Gillespie, Nancy Wilson, Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Freddie Hubbard, Regina Carter and Lionel Hampton.

  • On the International scene, Mark Sganga has enthralled audiences from Stockholm to Kuala Lumpur to the Thredbo Jazz Festival in Australia. His dynamic playing has been featured on tours and recordings with the sublime Indian violin virtuoso Dr. L. Subramaniam, alongside esteemed greats such as Larry Coryell and Herbie Hancock. In touring across the states, Mark has played opposite the legendary Taj Mahal in a Santa Cruz Festival. He has performed at the Skirball Center in Los Angeles. He regularly participates in The Woodchoppers Ball in Kent, OH and at Nighttown Jazz Club in Cleveland. He is a repeat featured performer and a judge at The Indiana State Fingerstyle Guitar Competition. And for several years, Mark has been a main stage performer at the reputable Walnut Valley Guitar Festival in where he won first place in 2009. Mark will be joined by John Arbo on bass and Steve Rubin, on drums.

    Acclaimed jazz guitarist Mark Whitfield brings his formidable trio to Zinc on Monday, January 30. He’s supported by Mark Lewandowski on bass and Charles Goold on drums.

    Mark Whitfield graduated from Boston’s prestigious Berklee College of Music, the world’s foremost institution for the study of Jazz and modern American music in the spring of 1987. Shortly thereafter, he returned to his native New York to embark on a career as a Jazz Guitarist that afforded him the opportunity to collaborate with legendary artists including Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey, Quincy Jones, Ray Charles, Herbie Hancock, Carmen McRae, Gladys Knight, Burt Bacharach, Jimmy Smith, Clark Terry, Shirley Horn, Wynton Marsalis, Branford Marsalis, Joe Williams, Stanley Turrentine and his greatest teacher and mentor George Benson.

Since founding Mark Morris Dance Group (MMDG) in 1980, Morris has created close to 150 works for the company, many of which are widely considered masterpieces.
