T. K. Blue, Saxophonist started his musical career playing the trumpet at 8, switching to drums. He found his love of the saxophones and flute starting a long-term relationships as Musical Director with pianist Randy Weston.

Alto Saxophonist Antonio Hart has preformed and reordered with many jazz greats from Dizzy Gillespie, Roy Hargrove, Nancy Wilson, Nat Adderley, and McCoy Tyner to Dave Holland. Tammy McCann an internationally recognized Jazz Vocalist and currently Artist in Residence for the Music Institute of Chicago. Her powerful, sultry, and emotionally charged voice paints pictures and tells stories. Jimmy Heath Legacy Band will preform in remembrance.

Performances will feature musicians who played with Roy in the big band and in his other ensembles. Ms. Brandes-Hargrove is the band’s Executive Director, and Mr. Bruce Williams, lead alto and big band member from 1997 until Mr. Hargrove’s death in 2018, is Music Director. Mr. Jason Marshall, baritone saxophonist and also long-time member of the big band, serves as Assistant Music Director.

Acclaimed Venezuelan jazz pianist Luis Perdomo brings his trio to Zinc on Tuesday, August 2 for a splendid evening of jazz piano. He's supported by Ugonna Okegwo on bass and Adam Cruz on drums.

Ever since he came to New York in 1993 from Venezuela, Perdomo has emerged as one of the most in-demand sidemen—as evidenced by his celebrated work with a wide array of jazz and Latin stars—from Ravi Coltrane to Ray Barretto, and by his six critically acclaimed recordings as a leader. The release of his magnificent new, Hot Tone label debut CD, 22, features bassist Mimi Jones’ supple, deep bass lines and drummer Rudy Royston’s quicksilver rhythms, in a trio he christened The Controlling Ear Unit. “I wanted to create an environment where a sensitive player could make his own musical choices, without fear of the consequences,” Perdomo says. “The word ‘unit’ is appropriate because although the current group is a trio, it doesn’t really have to be restrained to that. It could have a different format, depending on what the music calls for.”
