It’s Summer, that special time when New York City opens its vast array of parks and outdoor spaces to the sound of music. Jazzmobile returns with its 58th annual Summerfest series, which takes over a myriad of stages throughout the city’s five boroughs with a dancing and diverse assemblage of nearly 30 jazz stars and emerging talents from July 6 to August 31. This electric musical lays bare the rich legacy of an American icon whose work spans different genres, from jazz to gospel to blues to Broadway to rock and roll. It features such definitive classics as I Loves You Porgy, Young, Gifted and Black, and My Baby Just Cares for Me. Heart-melting and hopeful, Simone’s spellbinding story comes to life through four actresses in this theatrical journey. Simply Simone is performed in two acts with one 15-minute intermission. The total run time is approximately two hours and 10 minutes.

Latin GRAMMY winner Emilio Teubal brings his vibrant jazz ensemble to our stage as we conclude Hispanic/LatinX Heritage Month. A prolific pianist, composer and arranger, Teubal regularly performs in the top jazz clubs around the country.

Young piano and organ phenomenon Matthew Whitaker is one of the most exciting talents to emerge in recent years. A child prodigy, he has since shared the stage with some of the biggest and brightest stars in jazz. Whitaker also shines as an award-winning composer and an acclaimed bandleader whose unrelenting energy uplifts his bands and audiences alike.

Please bring your own seating for this concert, as it takes place on our grassy Friends Field. You can even bring or purchase a picnic dinner! This concert takes place rain or shine. If it rains, we will move into the Venetian Theater.
