Recently featured in NPR Morning Edition & Spotify's "Best Jazz of 2021", saxophonist Mike Casey & his Trio is an experience to behold. The absence of guitar/piano allows the band a rare sound: earthy, yet mysterious - incorporating ingredients of funk, R&B, hip hop & music from around the world into their own definition of jazz fusion.
This trio demands the audiences’ attention – whether bringing down the house with story based originals or captivating listeners with genre-bending re-imaginations of songs by Soundgarden, Queen, Daniel Caesar & even Jay-Z. In 2020, the band was 1 of 5 international finalists in the largest ensemble based competition in jazz - the DC Jazz Festival’s “DC Jazz Prix”, and has played notable stages such as the Kennedy Center, BRIC Jazz Fest, Yale, Side Door Jazz Club, Philadelphia Museum of Art, and some of Europe's top jazz venues such as Jamboree, Le Jam, Auditori Nacional, Ool Ya Kool Jazz, and Jimmy Glass.
