  • In November, the International Contemporary Ensemble is back at Target Margin with a new installation by Nathan Davis, which explores geologic time with ready-to-use building materials, collaborations with Nicholas Houfek’s ColorSynth, Phyllis Chen’s Tone Grove, and more! On November 4th, take a journey through different visual and sonic representations of textiles, panels, and frames. As Nathan Davis explores geologic time with ready-to-use building materials in his sound design for an upcoming collaborative architectural installation, Planetary Home Improvement, Marianthi Papalexandri’s Duo for Motor and Sound Panels brings audiences through a dynamic spatialization where the performer functions as a mechanism, like clockwork. Phyllis Chen’s Tone Grove translates Anni Albers’ weaving patterns into custom-built drum sequences, creating sounds from hand-cranked music boxes, bamboo, rice, bowls, and hands. Physical, tactile experiences become central to these works. FREE with RSVP. In-person and livestream options available. Registration is required for these concerts (no exceptions) and is available on Eventbrite or go to tinyurl.com/JUTSbeck. Continuing in the music legacies of his father and grandfather, Chris Beck is making a name for himself on the New York scene as a hard-swinging, powerhouse drummer and composer. Beck’s refreshing and soulful vision as an artist is on full display, as is his unique ability to pay homage to the classic straight-ahead style of jazz while infusing elements of his African roots and Gospel upbringing. The lineup for the rest of the jazz series is as follows: 8/19. Sharp Radway 8/26. Duane Eubanks For further information, visit the Library’s website at www.englewoodlibrary.org. The Englewood Library is located at 31 Engle St., Englewood, N.J.
  • Award-winning jazz trumpeter and flugelhornist Duane Eubanks will be appearing in concert at the Englewood Library on Thursday, August 26, at 7:30 p.m. on the library’s front plaza. This will be the ninth installment of the Englewood Public Library’s 9th annual “Jazz Under the Stars” concert series. The series is free and open to the public, but registration is required for these concerts (no exceptions) and is available on Eventbrite or go to tinyurl.com/JUTSeubanks. The rain date will be Sunday, August 29 at 7:30 p.m. Duane Eubanks was raised in intensively musical surroundings. After studying for a degree in Business Administration at the University of Maryland, Eubanks enrolled as a jazz major at Temple University. Relocating to New York, Eubanks formed his own quartet and in 1997 made his recording debut on his brother Robin Eubanks’ Wake Up Call. Eubanks is a veteran of Mulgrew Miller’s band Wingspan, and credits the late piano master as a primary influence and mentor. Duane’s liking for warm and melodic sounds has led him to compose a number of attractive songs, including ‘Lonelyism’, ‘Can’t Wait ’Til Dawn’ and ‘Clairvoyance’, all of which appear on his debut album. The final concert in the series will be the Vince Ector Group, on Thursday, September 9 at 7:30 p.m. For further information, email programming@englewood.bccls.org, or visit the Library’s website at www.englewoodlibrary.org
