Jewish Leaders Stress Social Distancing During Passover

cnn.com

Jewish leaders are encouraging folks to celebrate Passover this week with small Seders because of strict social distancing rules in place to help slow the spread of coronavirus.

Rabbi Noam Marans with the American Jewish Committee says it’s our job to turn to tradition and create normalcy in a very abnormal situation.

“We can make this the most meaningful Passover of our lifetimes.”

Passover traditionally involves large family gatherings with Seders but he says not this year with the coronavirus.

“Responsible leadership is asking for us to remain with just the people who are in our household.”

The rabbi says he’s concerned about the Jewish funeral that took place recently in Brooklyn and in Lakewood, New Jersey. He says no religious practices are to interfere with the preservation of life and that means right not following social distancing guidelines.
