Organist Larry Goldings, guitarist Peter Bernstein and drummer Bill Stewart have been playing together for more than 35 years, making them one of the longest-running trios in jazz.
Their new album, Rhombus, is out now on Smoke Sessions Records. When I was asked to write the liner notes, I wanted to understand how three musicians who have each spent their careers playing with so many other people managed to keep this particular conversation going for so long.
So I got the three of them together on Zoom and asked them to take me back to the beginning.
