Blue Wave Has Swept Over NJ In Past Decade

en.wikipedia.org

A blue wave has been washing over New Jersey.

The Democrats are on the rise and have been for much of the past decade. Of the state’s 12 seats in the House of Representatives, 10 are likely to be blue and two red when the counting is over.

A redistricting after the 2010 census left New Jersey’s 12 Congressional districts evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans.

Benjamin Dworkin, director of the Rowan Institute for Public Policy at Rowan University in Glassboro, said the numbers tell the story. “In 2007, registered Democrats outnumbered registered Republicans in the state of New Jersey by 290,000,” he said. “In 2020 registered Democrats outnumber registered Republicans in New Jersey by 1.1 million.”

Dworkin said the surge started when many people wanted to vote in the Obama-Hillary Clinton primary in 2008 and it continued as people turned away from former governor Chris Christie in his second term.
