Cuomo, Unions Seek Federal Aid to Avoid Budget Cuts

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and union leaders are asking Congress for major financial help to avoid drastic cuts.

Cuomo says there is no combination of savings, efficiencies or tax increases that can come close to covering New York’s massive fiscal hole caused by revenue losses and expenses tied to coronavirus.

“People say well cuts, but don’t cut daycare. Cuts, but don’t cut education. It doesn’t work it’s not true. It’s not real,” said Cuomo.

He and a number of labor union leaders sent a letter to Congress outlining the seriousness of the fiscal jam the state is in while asking for $59 billion.
