The Charlie Parker Jazz Festival, New York City’s annual salute to the iconic late saxophonist returns for its 33rd year for a three-day celebration of free live jazz performances in the neighborhoods near where Parker worked and lived, including Harlem’s historic Marcus Garvey Park and Tompkins Square Park in the East Village.

Each year the team assembles some of the finest musicians in the world who reflect Charlie Parker’s musical individuality and genius, to promote appreciation for this highly influential and world-renowned artist. This vibrant – and free – celebration of jazz in New York brings together stories, veteran players and the next generation of jazz artists.

The 2025 Charlie Parker festival runs this week through Sunday, August 24.

WBGO’s Drive Time host Brian Delp has been hosting the Sunday shows for the past two decades. Brian spoke this week with Yunie Mojica, Programming and Partnerships Manager, SummerStage and Charlie Parker Jazz Festival.

The 2025 Charlie Park Jazz Festival lineup includes legendary bassist Ron Carter, Branford Marsalis Quartet, trumpet player and multi-instrumentalist Nicholas Payton, accomplished jazz pianist Bertha Hope Quintet, rising jazz vocalist Georgia Heers, legendary TONY and GRAMMY-winning jazz vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater with celebrated jazz pianist Bill Charlap, brilliant jazz saxophonist and his influential jazz group Gary Bartz: NTU Troop, and the noted NYC jazz ensemble The Jazz Gallery All-Stars, among others.

DJ KULTURED CHILD aka WBGO's Milestones podcast host Angélika Beener will also be providing music on Saturday and Sunday at the festival.

Doug Doyle has been News Director at WBGO since 1998. Since then, Doug and his news staff have received more than 300 awards from organizations like PRNDI (now PMJA), AP, New York Association of Black Journalists, Garden State Association of Black Journalists and the New Jersey Society of Professional Journalists.
Brian Delp has been a member of WBGO’s on-air team for more than two decades, most-recently as the long-time host of Jazz After Hours. He has emceed at nearly every major jazz venue in the New York City area and hosted a portion of New York City’s City Parks Foundation’s Charlie Parker Jazz Festival over several summers.
