Ones & Twos, the new Blue Note album from pianist and composer Gerald Clayton, is a collection of deftly written, groove-minded, forward-looking music performed by some of today's finest improvising musicians, including the leader on piano, Rhodes, organ & synths, vibraphonist Joel Ross, flutist Elena Pinderhughes, trumpeter Marquis Hill, and drummer Kendrick Scott.
Clayton says, "Ones & Twos" is an experiment - an idea inspired by the art of turntablism; a compelling listen where you will hear aspects of post-bop, chamber music, neo-soul, 60's avant-garde, 70's fusion and Latin tinged expression, with an underlying thought process of "can we do that?" Clayton adds, "Very early on in my life, it made sense that all of this music comes downstream from the blues. It's the way I still feel about it."
