Think of the Posi-Tone Swingtet as a seasoned group that’s been making great music for quite some time. Or, a repertory company whose participants can readily anticipate each other’s moves, making for a great performance each time out. Truth is, they’ve played on each other’s recordings so frequently that each time the output just sounds like a seasoned encounter.
With In Jazz We Trust, the Posi-Tone label celebrates its 30th Anniversary, and although this group sounds as if they’ve been here together for the entire ride they haven’t. But that sense memory of knowing each other puts them in a special, spirited, swinging place.
The Swingtet brings together saxophonists Diego Rivera and Patrick Cornelius (who also contributes flute), trumpeter & flugelhornist Alex Sipiagin, trombonist Michael Dease, pianist Art Hirahara, bassist Boris Kozlov and drummer Rudy Royston. With each member contributing a tune to the effort, reflecting Posi-Tone’s passions for different scenarios, the Swingtet comes together as a creative collective we all can trust.
Hear a track from the Swingtet at 8:20 am each weekday morning on Daybreak.
