The Book of Isaiah: Modern Jazz Ministry by Isaiah J. Thompson

Pianist Isaiah J. Thompson is easily one of the most versatile pianists of his generation. With an incredible list of accolades to prove it. He is the winner 2023 American Pianist Award, and Cole Porter Fellowship in Jazz, and has collaborated with artists like Wynton Marsalis and John Pizzarelli, and Christian McBride.

He has also released several dynamic albums as a leader, making it clear that he's absolutely a voice you need to know. Now with his latest release, The Book of Isaiah Modern Jazz Ministry, releasing on Mack Avenue on June 6th, he's melding his command of blues and swing traditions with spiritual music and bringing his faith to the foreground.

WBGO's Emily Springer discusses the release with Thompson. The two touch on his battle with tendonitis, journey into faith, and what spiritual music can sound like.
