In his notes for Rhythm, Melody and Harmony, NEA Jazz Master Willard Jenkins says it right: "When you combine impeccable taste in note selection, adept spacing, and near peerless dexterity at the piano keyboard with a soulful approach derived from both familial upbringing and Black church experience, you get a true sense of the mastery of Cyrus Chestnut."
With his last two recordings centered on trio expression, here Cyrus is joined by saxophonist Stacy Dillard, drummer Chris Beck, and making his first recording with Cyrus, bassist Gerald Cannon.
Cyrus' originals are the main focus here, an infectious collection guaranteed to have your head movin' like the pigeons in the park. The recording ends, as it should, in church, with a spirited rendition of "There Is A Fountain".
Each weekday morning @ 8:20 hear a track from this new Cyrus Chestnut release!
