For saxophonist Willie Morris, his new recording, Unbound Inner, in his words, is the coming together of the featured musicians and the listeners; common themes of struggles and joy, connecting to release just that - an unbound inner. With Willie on tenor and soprano saxophone, the musicians here include vibraphonist Behn Gillece, pianist Jon Davis, bassist Boris Koslov and drummers Rudy Royston and Jason Tiemann.
It's a program of straight ahead cooking, funky festive, beautiful balladry, written by Willie and Jon, alongside a gorgeous duet with Willie and Behn on Herbie Hancock's "Tell Me A Bedtime Story."
