The collaboration between pianist Brad Mehldau, saxophonist Mark Turner and guitarist Peter Bernstein first gained attention with their 1994 recording, Consenting Adults. Over the years they’ve appeared on each other’s recordings as well, cementing a musical synergy.

As Turner states, “I think we all come from the same language, and now there’s more language to work with.”

On their new recording, Solid Jackson, M.T.B.(as they are known), add bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Bill Stewart for a spirited engagement featuring originals and nuggets from Hank Mobley, Wayne Shorter, and Harold Land. The result is all killer, no filler, or as Charlie Haden might’ve remarked, “Solid Jackson!”

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning on Daybreak. He's the winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year Award and the recipient of the 2021 Marian McPartland-Willis Conover Award for Career Achievement in Broadcasting from the Jazz Journalists Association. Gary hosts the morning show each weekday from 8am til noon. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
