Dave Stryker's 'Stryker With Strings Goes To The Movies' featured on WBGO's New Day New Play Jan 6-10

C/O Artist
Dave Stryker with Strings Goes to the Movies

In his liner notes for this album, writer David Brent Johnson states that the emotional power of movies often depends upon the undercurrent of music that guides them. With "Stryker With Strings Goes To The Movies," guitarist Dave Stryker, surrounded by a 30-piece orchestra, superbly arranged and conducted by Brent Wallarab, shares the emotional power of music from movies including Say Anything, Cinema Paradiso, You Only Live Twice, Shaft, Anatomy Of A Murder, Peter Gunn, Taxi Driver and more, featuring Stryker's nucleus of pianist/keyboardist Xavier Davis, bassist Jeremy Allen and drummer McClenty Hunter, with special guests including violinist Sara Caswell, saxophonist Greg Ward, trombonist Jim Pugh, and flugelhornist Mark Buselli.

This is Dave Stryker's most ambitious project to date, and he comes away with pictures you thought you'd never heard before.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning on Daybreak. He's the winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year Award and the recipient of the 2021 Marian McPartland-Willis Conover Award for Career Achievement in Broadcasting from the Jazz Journalists Association. Gary hosts the morning show each weekday from 8am til noon. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
