Terry Gibbs Dream Band Vol. 7: The Lost Tapes, 1959

Vibraphonist Terry Gibbs possesses a musical and personal spirit that still shines brightly at 100! A big reason is the energy of his 16 piece Dream Band. After 6 Volumes of re-issues, Terry and his son, drummer Gerry came across an archival file in Gerry's computer labeled "1959 Jazz Party". What you have here is that party, with knocked out arrangements by Marty Paich, Bill Holman and Bob Brookmeyer; outstanding solos from trumpeter Conte Candoli, drummer Mel Lewis, trombonist Carl Fontana, and Gibbs himself with his engaging vibe work. Must've been a helluva party.

Just an extra note - go to YouTube and call up episodes of "Steve Allen's Music Room", with Terry's Dream Band as the house band, and 28 year old sidekick Bill Maher!

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning on Daybreak. He's the winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year Award and the recipient of the 2021 Marian McPartland-Willis Conover Award for Career Achievement in Broadcasting from the Jazz Journalists Association. Gary hosts the morning show each weekday from 8am til noon. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
