Trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis has been part of bands led by Ray Charles, Art Blakey, Max Roach, Elvin Jones and Slide Hampton. But for this NEA Jazz Master, his New Orleans home holds a coveted place.
He shares that coveted place with the listener on "Crescent City Jewels" with his Uptown Jazz Orchestra. There's Crescent City favorites, featuring Kermit Ruffins and Davell Crawford ( who will also host a WBGO Kids Jazz Concert in November.) There's also a Delfeayo-penned salute to Count Basie, and a nod to sax legend Joe Henderson, featuring Branford Marsalis on tenor.
