Celebrating its 15th year, the Montclair Jazz Festival is presenting its new Uptown Showcase this Saturday, August 17th.
The Showcase will be presented in two parts at Montclair State University’s Kasser Theater. Beginning at noon, student ensembles from the Jazz House Summer Workshop will perform. Then, beginning at 5:30 p.m., the evening's headliner, Christian McBride & Friends, featuring drummer Jeff “Tain” Watts and Pianist Cyrus Chestnut, will take the stage. The Julian Lee Quartet will open for the ensemble, guaranteeing a day filled with incredible music.
The entire program is free, but RSVPing is required for each portion of the event as seats in the theater are limited. The theater will be cleared between student ensembles and the headlining performers, giving audience members the opportunity to visit food trucks and merchandise booths.
