The music and entertainment worlds are mourning the loss of Snarky Puppy singer and keyboardist Shaun Martin who died Sunday at the age of 45.

The cause of death has not been revealed, but it was reported that the musician stepped away in April 2023 to battle an undisclosed illness.

Snarky Puppy announced his death on Instagram, Facebook and X on Sunday. The group wrote: “We lost a music legend and, more importantly, a beautiful, luminous human being. Shaun Martin touched so many people during his life and through the beautiful immortality of music, will continue to do so. There’s so much that can be said but words can’t do justice. Rest in peace.”

Shaun Martin was a seven-time Grammy award winner who began his career in his hometown of Dallas.

He will be deeply missed by the jazz community and WBGO.
