2024 Caramoor Jazz Festival Evening Headliner Matthew Whitaker

When Matthew Whitaker was 8 years old his parents would bring him to WBGO to play our piano and organ. We knew right then this was someone to watch. And we did watch, and listen, as he merged his creative mind with Monk, Ellington, Strayhorn, Brubeck, and so many others, in addition to his own compositions, giving his creations an infectious spirit guaranteed to move.

With On Their Shoulders, Matthew brings that spirit to organ masters Jimmy Smith, Joey DeFrancesco, Dr. Lonnie Smith, a visit to the gospel world of Elbernita "Twinkie" Clark, alongside his original compositions, to make the world a better place after just one listen.

Matthew Whitaker is featured live on July 27th at Caramoor.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning on Daybreak. He's the winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year Award and the recipient of the 2021 Marian McPartland-Willis Conover Award for Career Achievement in Broadcasting from the Jazz Journalists Association. Gary hosts the morning show each weekday from 8am til noon. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
