Photo Gallery: The Charlie Parker Jazz Fest with The Cookers, Endea Owens, Charles McPherson & more

The Charlie Parker Jazz Festival, now in its 31st year, returned to various locations in NYC over the course of five days. The culmination of the festival took place with concerts on Saturday, August 26 at Marcus Garvey Park and Sunday, August 27 at Tompkins Square. The former, hosted by WBGO's Sheila Anderson, featured performances by The Cookers, Endea Owens & the Cookout, the Nduduzo Makhathini Trio and Akua Allrich and The Tribe. The latter concert, hosted by WBGO's Brian Delp, featured Charles McPherson with Terell Stafford, the Something Else! Vincent Herring Septet, Hera featuring Chelsea Baratz and Andromeda Turre, and Michael Mayo.

Two of WBGO's contributing photographers, David Kaufman and Anthony Nieves, were there to document the weekend shows that benefited from sunny skies and moderate temperatures.

Those performances were preceded by various other concerts and events at various venues around the city, Among the artists appearing at these festival events were Orrin Evans and The Captain Black Big Band featuring Dianne Reeves, T.K. Blue, the Sylvia Cuenca Organ Quartet, Michael Mwenso, the Andrea Brachfeld Quartet and many others.

The festival is presented by the City Parks Foundation.
