The 92nd Street Y, New York (92NY) has announced its 2023/2024 Tisch Music concert season which includes a half-dozen jazz performances. Among the jazz artists appearing at 92NY are Pat Metheny, Christian McBride Big Band, Mary Halvorson, Cecile McLorin Salvant, Dianne Reeves, Chucho Valdes and Joe Lovano. Salvant’s concert on April 13, 2024 will feature the world premiere of a new work commissioned by the 92NY in connection with its 150th anniversary. In addition, the performances by Metheny and Redman will be exclusive NYC appearances connected to their new albums—Metheny’s Dream Box and Redman’s Where Are We, a collaboration with vocalist Gabrielle Cavassa. See the complete schedule below.
The jazz season was curated by Amy Lam, vice-president, Tisch Music. “Jazz music’s history at The 92nd Street Y traces back over a century, a significant portion of the time we’re celebrating in this 150th anniversary season,” said Lam in a press release received by WBGO. “Some of the biggest names in jazz history have performed on our stage, including Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus, John Coltrane, Sarah Vaughan, Marian McPartland, Dave Brubeck, Betty Carter, Jimmy Heath, Benny Golson and Sonny Rollins. We’re thrilled to continue making history by welcoming these jazz greats of today to our concert hall.” Learn more at the 92NY website.
