Ron Carter

He's the most recorded bassist in jazz history. His creativity and harmonic dexterity are unparalleled, but yet, every day Ron Carter works indefatigably, continuing to find the right notes. This collection is a representation of that continuum, featuring Master Carter in a duo with Christian McBride or Stanley Clarke or Bill Frisell or Jon Batiste. And in a couple of fine trio settings. And, as a quartet, and in an even bigger fashion with the WDR Big Band of Cologne. The most fascinating aspect of this new collection is that we’re along for the search.

From Monday, Nov. 21 through Friday, Nov. 25, one cut from the Finding the Right Notes soundtrack album will be featured each morning on the New Day, New Play spotlight on my Daybreak show.

Listen to “Bag’s Groove” (featuring Russell Malone and Stanley Clarke) from Finding the Right Notes, above.

Carter talked recently with WBGO’s Brian Delp about the soundtrack album and the documentary that recently aired on PBS.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning. This winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year award has hosted the morning show each weekday from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
