Diana Krall Seeks to Turn Up the Quiet with a New Album and World Tour

Diana Krall has announced a new studio album and world tour, with  dates beginning in June. The album — Turn Up the Quiet, due out on May 5 — will reunite her with Tommy LiPuma, who has had a hand in producing most of her previous releases, going back to 1995. Turn Up the Quiet also signals Krall’s return to the Great American Songbook in a jazz context, after a few seasons of branching out.

Her most recent album, Wallflower, from 2015, was a satiny adaptation of 1970s soft-rock and singer-songwriter fare, produced by David Foster. Prior to that, in 2012, Krall released Glad Rag Doll, a throwback look at songs from the 1920s and ‘30s, which she produced in partnership with T Bone Burnett.

Both albums were fairly well received, but neither matched Krall’s track record with LiPuma, which accounts for some of the best-selling jazz albums in the modern era. She has received platinum certifications for several of these, including Love Scenes (1997), When I Look in Your Eyes (1999) and The Look of Love (2001). LiPuma also produced Live in Paris, a concert DVD released in 2002.

Krall’s tour kicks off in Minneapolis on June 2, and will bring her to the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark on June 16. She’ll play the Beacon Theater in New York City on June 21. For more tour dates, or to preorder the album, visit dianakrall.com.
