Eddie Allen Quartet

The Eddie Allen Quartet will be in concert at the Englewood Public Library, on Thursday, August 5, at 7:30 p.m. on the library’s front plaza. This will be the 7th concert in the library's 9th annual Summer Jazz Concert Series - "Jazz Under the Stars". This acclaimed series takes place every Thursday evening at 7:30 from June 24 through August 26. The concert series is free and open to the public. Registration is required for these concerts (no exceptions) and is available on Eventbrite or go to tinyurl.com JUTSeaq. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there is a maximum of 100 guests, Englewood library cardholders only, unless maximum not reached; please bring your own chair or blanket, and masks/social distancing is required. If inclement weather should take place, the rain date will be Sunday, August 8. Eddie Allen studied music, theory and arranging at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music in Milwaukee and the University of Wisconsin in Green Bay before moving to the East Coast. He then attended the William Paterson University of New Jersey where he received a Bachelor of Music degree. Since his arrival on the New York scene he’s worked with such jazz greats as; Art Blakey, Dizzy Gillespie, Henry Threadgill, Jon Faddis, Benny Carter and so many more. Allen has performed in the orchestras of such Broadway hits as: Ain’t Misbehavin’, Black & Blue, Side Show, Jelly’s Last Jam and Five Guys Named Mo’. He’s currently leading a quartet, a quintet, a Latin/Brasilian project and a large ensemble which brings together acoustic and electric/electronic instruments. He also leads a big band which not only plays his compositions and arrangements, but also the music of such jazz greats as Jimmy Heath, Bobby Watson, and Muhal Richard Abrams and Rufus Reid as they come to lead the band.
