David Sanborn in conversation with master interpreter and singer Kurt Elling

Dave Stapleton
Kurt Elling

Saxophonist and As We Speak host David Sanborn is a self-confessed Kurt Elling super-fan. He even says so during their conversation in the premiere episode of the podcast. Kurt talks about growing up singing in choirs—beginning in elementary school all the way through college—about his collaborators, and much more. The two also reminisce about their own live musical collaboration.

Listen to their conversation, above.

David Sanborn has released 24 albums, won six Grammy Awards, and has had eight Gold albums and one Platinum. Having inspired countless other musicians, Dave has worked in many genres which typically blend instrumental pop, R&B and traditional jazz. He released his first solo album Taking Off in 1975 but has been playing the saxophone since before he was in high school when he was inspired by the great Chicago blues artists near his hometown of St. Louis.
