At its first ever Virtual Awards Gala, PMJA (formerly PRNDI) announced the stations that will be receiving PMJA awards for work in calendar year 2019. The awards recognize the best work in public media journalism from across the country. Judges reviewed nearly 1300 entries and awarded 179 honors.
The WBGO News Team won five PMJA awards:
- 1st Place - Continuing Coverage - WBGO - "Newark Lead Pipe Water Crisis and Beyond" - (WBGO News Team)
- 1st Place - Arts Feature - WBGO - "Brooklyn-born Irving Burgie's Long Battle for Recognition" (Reporter - Jon Kalish)
- 1st Place - Spot News - WBGO - "Last Lindy Hopper Norma Miller Says Goodbye" (Reporter -Doug Doyle, with audio from Gary Walker's interview with Norma Miller)
- 2nd Place - Audience Engagement Program - WBGO - "Newark Today Explores the Impact of SOTA" (Host - Michael Hill, Producer Alexandra Hill)
- 2nd Place - Newscast - WBGO - "WBGO News Update with Doug Doyle" (WBGO News Team)
