The next meeting of the WBGO Community Advisory Board is scheduled for this Thursday evening, April 30. In accordance with social distancing guidelines, it will be held virtually via the GoToMeeting platform, at this link.
Jeffrey Riman, chair of the Community Advisory Board, notes that this marks the first time its meeting has been held online. Riman adds: “Our April 30 agenda includes an update by Interim CEO and President Bob Ottenhoff, who will update us on the numerous initiatives and actions that have been taken under his leadership.”
Ottenhoff, the founder and first general manager of WBGO, has been at the helm throughout the coronavirus pandemic. “Since returning to WBGO in February,” he says, “I’ve enjoyed getting to know the members of WBGO’s Community Advisory Board. They are an amazing group of loyal WBGO members who volunteer their time to give us feedback on how to make WBGO’s services better. They know a remarkable amount about WBGO’s announcers, music and online content and it’s always a valuable learning experience for me to hear what they have been enjoying.”
As always, the Community Advisory Board meeting is free and open to the public. “At every meeting our agenda includes time set aside for members of the public to share their thoughts,” Riman explains. In that sense, the virtual format may provide increased opportunity for public engagement.
“I’ve been discussing with the CAB leadership how we can make meetings more accessible in order to get more members involved,” Ottenhoff says. “We needed to make our April 30 meeting online because of the stay-at-home rules, but if this experiment works we may want to try it again.”
