WBGO proudly presented Her Rhythm: Women in Jazz this past March in celebration of Women’s History Month, bringing together an extraordinary lineup of artists, leaders, and emerging voices to honor the enduring impact of women in jazz. The evening featured captivating performances by vocalists Brianna Thomas, Jennifer Jade Ledesna, and Lezlie Harrison; pianist and vocalist Ella Bric; drummer and bandleader Sherrie Maricle; bassist Adi Meyerson; saxophonist Zoe Obadia; and pianist Tomoko Ohno. Presented in partnership with the UN Office of Partnerships and Jazz House Kids.
The evening also included an engaging panel discussion featuring vocalist and producer Michelle Taylor and pianist and vocalist Ella Bric, moderated by vocalist and arts leader Melissa Walker, offering insight into career journeys, mentorship, and the evolving landscape for women in jazz.
As we turn the page to Jazz Appreciation Month, Her Rhythm continues to resonate as more than a single evening, it stands as a reminder of the vital role women have played, and continue to play, in shaping jazz past, present, and future. Throughout April, WBGO will continue to spotlight moments from the event across our platforms, extending the celebration and deepening the conversation. With the support of our partners, the UN Office of Partnerships and Jazz House Kids, this celebration reaches beyond the stage, amplifying voices and fostering community through the power of jazz. Whether you joined us in person or are experiencing it for the first time, we invite you to revisit the music, the insights, and the spirit that made Her Rhythm such a meaningful tribute.
